Weinbrenner's Legacy: A Century and More of Quality Craftsmanship
In 1892, at the young age of 27, Albert H. Weinbrenner opened a cobblery in Milwaukee, partnering with Joseph Peffer to serve the "Jobbing" trades. This marked the humble beginnings of what would become a storied 130-year legacy.
Over the decades, the Weinbrenner Co. steadily grew, reaching key milestones along the way. In 1900, the company was officially formed. Sixteen years later, in 1916, the first catalog was printed, showcasing the firm's vast array of leather cutting machines - more than any other in the United States at the time.
The "Job-fitted" concept was introduced in 1917, as Weinbrenner became a major contributor of boots to the U.S. Army during World War I. In the following decades, the company took its first steps into safety footwear production in 1938, and then celebrated its 50th anniversary in 1942, shifting to all-military footwear production during WWII.
The post-war years saw the introduction of the iconic Hike n' Camp boot in 1964, which became the company's best-selling model. Ownership changes occurred in 1988 and 2000, leading to the creation of the ThoroGard safety footwear line and employee ownership through an ESOP.
Weinbrenner continued to innovate, donating hundreds of boots to Ground Zero workers after 9/11, and launching the 1892 Heritage line of handcrafted lifestyle boots in 2014. Today, the company celebrates its 130th year, with the opening of a new factory in Merrill, Wisconsin, and the introduction of its first western wear product, the Thorogood Square Toe Wellington.
Throughout this remarkable journey, Weinbrenner has maintained an outstanding relationship with its unionized workforce, demonstrating a steadfast commitment to quality, craftsmanship, and meeting the evolving needs of its customers.
As Thorogood gains popularity and expands with new styles, the future looks bright for this American heritage brand, built on a legacy of lasting quality and innovation.
Thorogood Men's GEN-flex2 Series
Thorogood's GEN-flex2 series offers a range of high-performance work boots designed to meet the demands of the modern workplace. These composite safety-toe boots provide the same protection as steel, but with the added benefits of being non-metallic, corrosion-resistant, and lightweight.
Featuring electric shock-resisting soles and heels, these boots can withstand up to 18,000 volts (root mean square value) at 60 Hz for 1 minute, with no current flow or leakage above 1.0 mA in dry conditions. The 100% non-metallic construction, including composite toes and non-metallic hardware, minimizes the risk of scratching work surfaces and will not activate security devices.
Tested for ASTM F2913-11 SATRA Test Method TM144 (or Mark II) industry criteria, these slip-resistant boots offer multi-directional traction with their VGS 300 outsole. Lightweight and flexible, they incorporate a multi-layer cushion insole and shock-absorbing Interactive cushioning system to provide all-day comfort and reduce impact stress.
Whether you're a carpenter, mechanic, welder, or any worker with a tough, dirty job, Thorogood's "Job-Fitted" GEN-flex2 boots are designed to keep you protected, comfortable, and on your feet, even in the most demanding environments.
